IT Strategy for an International Tire Manufacture
Business Issue:
Michelin, a $5.5B international transportation equipment manufacturer, needed to improve the effectiveness and productivity of its IT department by achieving a better level of coordination between concurrent IT projects.
Actions:
- Developed and implemented optimized processes for Underwriting and Premium Accounting functions
- Documented detailed procedures for the Premium Accounting functions, supporting the new process design
- Created documented job responsibilities and performance criteria to assist with performance and HR-related reviews
- Created new systems training materials for Premium Accounting implementation
- Conducted rollout training and implementation support for the Premium Accounting processing team
- Monitored daily metrics to assist with system enhancement requests
Results:
- Developed an IT Strategy that included redefining the mission statement, goals, and objectives for the North American IT department
- Identified organization core competencies that support the new mission statement
- Developed a new customer-focused organization structure enabling IT to be a strategic partner with its customers and defining metrics to measure IT’s effectiveness
- Completed an initial evaluation and assessment of outsourcing opportunities within the IT
- Developed the model for a Program Management Office to oversee and coordinate all of the IT initiatives and projects
- Assisted management with the transition to the new organization structure and operating model
